Adventureland is Disneyland's themed area focusing on the "wild and exotic" places of the world.It's here that you'll be able to buy stuffed snakes and Safari Mickey Mouse stuffed animals in the shops. Or, take a cruise into the depths of the jungle. Or, sing along with animatronic parrots and macaws in the Enchanted Tiki Room attraction. Or join Tarzan and his friends in a jungle tree house. Or...embark on one of the most popular journeys in all of Disneyland Park---a ride into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye...with that intrepid adventurer, Indiana Jones himself, helping you and your party out of the terrible circumstances in which you'll find yourself while inside!

Adventureland Attractions: The Indiana Jones Ride
What's the hottest ride in Adventureland at Disneyland California? It's a rugged jeep ride called the "Indiana Jones Adventure---Temple of the Forbidden Eye!"On the Indiana Jones ride, you'll enter a dark, subterranean world where mysterious writing decorates temple walls, serpents and spiders hold free rein, and firey eruptions pierce the surrounding gloom. Anything goes for an intrepid adventurer such as yourself, except for ONE forbidden rule---DON'T look into the eyes of the goddess Mara, or the whole expedition will suffer ruin!
Unfortunately, terrible things go wrong: SOMEBODY in your exploring party dared to gaze at Mara directly in the eyes---and is she ever angry! Now your entire group will suffer dire consequences! You're in for a rough-and-tumble ride through the underworld as your jeep rushes to escape the vengeance of her wrath.
Will you make it out alive? Who knows? Maybe...but, maybe not!
MINIMUM HEIGHT AND HEALTH WARNINGS: The minimum height required to ride the Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye attraction is 40" tall. Children should ride with a responsible adult, and kids should sit in the inner seats of the jeeps (away from the doors.) The Indiana Jones ride cars are "jeeps," and riders will experience all the bumping and jostling of a real jeep ride across rough terrain. Persons whose health will be adversely affected by the bouncing and abrupt movements should not ride. Guests in wheelchairs should enter through the exit.
The Fast Pass option is available for the Indiana Jones attraction. In addition, this ride sometimes allows single riders quicker admission. Ask the attendant in front of the Indiana Jones ride if the "single rider option" is in effect on the day that you visit. (Yes, I have taken advantage of the single rider option myself, so I can verify that it's offered at times...even if no signs are posted.)
Adventureland Attractions: Tarzan's Treehouse
Join Tarzan in his treetop home! In Adventureland at Disneyland California, you can climb into the "upper canopy" of jungle life. You'll walk on a swinging, bouncing bridge made of boards and rope; view dioramas of Tarzan, Jane and their friends; and even, on occasion, meet a strolling character from the Tarzan movie who has ascended with you into the heights.
After enjoying the view from Tarzan's cleverly constructed tree-top home, you'll descend to the explorer's "base camp" built by Jane's father.
Here, you'll enjoy viewing---and playing with---the whimsical contraptions devised by this jolly scientist. On occasion, you'll even meet a live critter carried by a Disney animal handler.
There is no minimum height requirement for the Tarzan's Treehouse attraction, but parents should not that lots and lots of stair climbing is involved in the tree house. Toddlers and preschoolers will have trouble getting up so many stairs in a timely manner. Don't take toddlers up into the tree house unless you are able and willing to carry them once they tire out. Also, just expect "rude" behavior from older children rushing past your toddler as he or she slowly ascends the many steps. The kids aren't trying to knock down your little one; they're just "being kids" in a treehouse that was meant for exploring and having fun.
There is no wheelchair access to the treehouse itself, but wheelchairs may freely roam about the "base camp" area and enjoy the interactive displays.
Adventureland Attractions: The Jungle Cruise adventure
Journey into the watery world under the jungle's canopy of vines and dense trees! (And, since these plants have grown freely for the past 50 years, Disneyland's jungle is certainly one feature in the park that's not "just make believe!")The trees truly are dense, and sunlight barely filters through the tangle of branches overhead. It's not hard at all to imagine that you're in some far-away clime, taking on the man-eating species of the wild.
Yet, the guides in Adventureland at Disneyland California gave up leading this tour as if it were realistic long ago. Nowadays, guests are less willing than they were 50 years ago to suspend their disbelief and pretend that they're truly in a jungle. So these days,the guides play along, and set a humorous tone to the trip.
Your guide will spin joke after joke as you wend your way along the beautiful man-made river. Some of the humor is quite funny---and some, on the other hand, is so corny that it makes the passengers groan! But, it's all in good fun. And, each guide varies the joke selection to suit his or her own taste---so no two rides through the jungle ever turn out the same!
There is no minimum height requirement to board the Jungle Cruise attraction. However, kids should ride with a responsible adult. Guests in wheelchairs and ECV's should note that boarding the Jungle Cruise ride involves a transfer with steps. ECV's should enter via the ride's exit.
Adventureland Attractions: Enchanted Tiki Room
The Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland at Disneyland California is a venerable "old favorite" with return guests.Inside this exotic building, you'll see a musical show conducted by....birds!
A quartet of animatronic avians lead you through a merry revue of island tunes. Plus, the show includes some HIDDEN SURPRISES along the way. I can't mention what these surprises are, in case you haven't seen the performance yet....but, the effects are very clever!
This is a great attraction to see during the afternoon on a busy summer day. Because the shows run back-to-back continuously throughout the day, you'll never have to wait very long to enjoy this attraction.
The crowd awaits the next showing of the performance in an attractive courtyard, which is decorated island-style. A short pre-show takes place in the courtyard, plus a refreshment cart sits adjacent to the waiting area.
Adventureland at Disneyland California: Meeting costumed Disney characters
Finding costumed Disney characters is a must-do experience for some Disneyland guests, and if that describes YOU, then Adventureland at Disneyland California won't disappoint.You'll HAVE to visit Adventureland, in fact, to complete your autograph or photo collections. Some of the Disney characters appear ONLY in Adventureland (except, of course, for their appearances in Disneyland parades.)
Aladdin and Jasmine have a permant "home" from which they sign autographs and greet guests. Come visit them at "Aladdin's Oasis" in Adventureland. Bring your camera---it's always completely FREE OF CHARGE to photograph your family with the Disneyland costumed characters!
On occasion, you'll get to see costumed Disney characters from the Lion King movie strolling about Adventureland. In this photo on your left, you see the character "Rafiki," from the Lion King with my granddaughter, Natali. On this particular visit to Disneyland Park, we also saw the character "Timon" (also in Adventureland. Darn it---we haven't seen Simba yet!)
Usually, you'll be able to find a character or two from Disney's Tarzan movies hanging around the Tarzan Tree House in Adventureland. Sometimes, the costumed Tarzan characters will greet guests below the tree---on solid ground. Other times, a Tarzan story character will be up inside the tree house itself---such as when we took this picture of Natali greeting "Turk."
Shopping in Adventureland at Disneyland California
Unique shopping opportunities can be found in Adventureland at Disneyland California. The merchandise is more exotic and "adventure oriented" in this section of the park than at the stores in other "lands."Where else in Disneyland Anaheim can you buy (fake) snakes and spiders for yor young son's collection? Only in Adventureland!
Of more interest to the adults is the selection of safari and Hawaiian-style clothing for sale in the Bazaars here.
Are you looking for Quiksilver, Roxy, Hurley and other surf brands of clothing? Yes, you can buy surf styles at Disneyland---but the Adventureland stores are the only place in the park that you can!
As you can tell brom this photo, even Mickey and Pooh get into the safari mood in Adventureland at Disneyland California. Lilo and Stitch character merchandise is another good bet to find here in the Adventureland shops.
