Buena Park Medieval Times Dinner TheaterThe young knights and damsels in your family will love this dinner theater restaurant!
Though Medieval Times dinner theater restaurants aren't common, most every traveler has heard of this chain's raucous finger-food feasts and outrageous jousting events. Why? Because Medieval Times restaurants are always located in the USA's top tourist destinations. Is Southern California a top tourist draw in the United States? Sure, you bet it is! And, following the tradition of the Medieval Times chain, they've placed a restaurant in the greater Los Angeles area...just a "stone's throw" from the Knott's Berry Farm theme park, and just down the freeway from Disneyland Park.So popular is this dinner show and other tourist attractions in Buena Park, California that the city of Buena Park has coined a special name for the area in which they're located---the Buena Park E-Zone! On this page, you'll learn about the fun your family can have while visiting the Buena Park Medieval Times location. And then, we'll talk about two other E-Zone attractions you may enjoy, as well: the Pirates Adventure Dinner Theater and the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Photo note: Around the area of Buena Park's giant Medieval Castle, it seems like "everyone wants to get in on the fun!" In the picture to your left, you see the cute, Medieval Castle-themed Burger King which is across the street from the dinner theater. Buena Park Medieval Times Show
The Medieval Times show is a spectacle of pageantry and pomp The premise is that we spectators are witnessing a scene out of the European 11th century. Knights in colorful garb brandish weapons such as maces, swords and lances. Their valiant steeds wear splendid costumes, perform tricks, and lead their owners into victorious jousting glory. A fair damsel, clad in one of the beautiful long gowns that make little girls long to become princesses, spurs her devoted admirer on to defeat challenges against all odds.In other words, this is a performance that will set your young boys to sword fighting in the back yard with every stick or empty paper towel spool they can find...and get little girls rummaging through their dress-up box (or mommy's closet) trying to emulate the look of maidens of yore. This is a night that your family is sure to remember for many years to come. The Buena Park Medieval Time's arena is simply cavernous. Artful lighting and pulse-raising music add to the thrill of the action transpiring on "stage." Meanwhile, the spectators line all sides of this football stadium-shaped indoor theater. Most seats will have a good view...though just as at a football game, seats closer to what would be the "50 yard line" are the best viewing points in the house. Also, just like viewing a ball game, seats a little higher up in the stands have a better view of the overall action, while the lower seats will have a better view of the characters directly in front of them. Buena Park Medieval Times Menu
At Medieval Times, WHAT you eat is actually secondary to HOW you'll eat it! The "big excitement" for the kids (and the biggest DREAD for some adults!) is the fact that your meal will be served without silverware! This means that you'll be picking up your meat with your hands and drinking your soup as if the bowl were a cup. But, dig in...and don't worry. If the extra napkins don't get the stickiness off, you can also join the others marching towards the restrooms to wash their hands! The meal served at Medieval Times is a typical American-style dinner. You'll sup on bread, soup, chicken and/or meat, potato and dessert. Beverages come included with the price of the meal, with one free refill. Since guests flock to Medieval Times for the pageantry & thrill of the show, the actual food itself is secondary. The menu selection was chosen to have the widest appeal to US taste buds. It's a good, hearty feast. Diners used to gourmet restaurants may not be pleased, but most folks will come away being happy with the meal. One problem with eating at Medieval Times is the size and comfort of the seating arrangements. What you can't tell from the photos on the Medieval Times website (see link below) is how narrow the little tables are and how hard the benches feel after you've been there awhile. (These are definitely NOT padded chairs!) Also, anyone who must use the restroom frequently (little kids, pregnant women) should sit near an aisle, because just like at a football stadium, you'll have to crawl over a whole bunch of other people to get into and out of your row. Medieval Times prices, coupons and discountsPrices at Medieval Times would be a little steep if they were just for the dinner itself...but they're not bad for getting to see a live show with a large cast, splendid costumes, and "animal actors." You may use the link to their official website (in the paragraph below) to check the Medieval Times current prices, but as of Spring 2008, adult tickets (which include both the meal and the show) cost $52 on-line. The kid's ticket price was $35. (A child at Medieval Times is age 12 years and under.) Preferred seating (which also includes a souvenir DVD and printed program) costs $10 per person extra. Pirate's Adventure Dinner Show
The food is different and the show is different. But, essentially, you'll enjoy a very similar experience at the Pirate's Adventure dinner theater as you had at Medieval Times. You'll be treated once again to a grandiose spectacle bedecked with lavish costumes, dramatic lighting honed to an art form, and a sound track meant to sway your moods along with the action you're viewing in the show. There are no performing horses to behold, but the set pieces themselves are more elaborate...and the centerpiece, a faux 18th century Spanish galleon, is actually set into a shallow indoor lagoon! Finicky eaters may enjoy the dining experience at Pirate's Dinner Adventure because rather than being served one standard meal, guests may choose from a choice of several. No, it's still not gourmet fare, but it's good, and being able to choose your favorite from among the choices is satisfying in itself. Prices are purposely set to roughly mirror those of Medieval Times. It's the kind of place your tweens and teenagers will adore; and you, yourself, might like it...or begin to wonder why you entered in the first place.
