What goes on at a Build A Bear Workshop?Step 1: Selecting your Buildabear to stuff
Build A Bear Workshops are all very similar in looks and in layout. Once you're inside a Build A Bear store, you just might forget whether you're in Anaheim, Houston, Phoenix, Denver...or maybe even Tokyo (where my daughter discovered last summer that even Build A Bear stores overseas look the same as shops in the USA!) In fact, I purposely used photos taken at Build A Bear Workshops around the Southwest USA so that you can see how similar in looks (and in Bears that are offered) each store in the chain is to one another.In other words, you may not know "what's going on" the FIRST time you enter a Build A Bear Workshop...but forever after, you'll be a PRO! You'll always know what types of merchandise are offered, and where to find them. An example of each type of animal available sits pre-stuffed on a shelf...to show you just how your finished product is going to look. And, beneath these finished "example" animals, you'll find barrels with the unstuffed shells. When you decide which animal you want, you should simply take the empty shell of your choice out of its bin....and head to the Bear Stuffing Machines! (Note: most stores have a selection of Build A Bear animals which have already been stuffed and dressed ready for customers in a hurry to buy. You won't get to customize these ready-to-buy stuffed animals, but they're great for times when you're "on the run.") Step 2: Stuffing your Buildabear animal
As you already saw in the photo at the top of the page, the Build A Bear Workshops have teamed up with the Disney folks to bring you Winnie the Pooh to stuff. In the picture to your left, you can also see that BuildABear has teamed up with the Sanrio company...so that you can stuff a cute-as-pie "Hello, Kitty" and take her home!Whether it's Hello, Kitty that you've chosen...or a monkey, a frog, Cookie Monster, a puppy dog...or maybe a traditional teddy bear...as you approach the bear stuffing machines, you'll pass merchandise stations where you'll have to stop and make some tough choices. You'll be offered the chance to add a "voice box" to your stuffed creation. For a small, reasonably-priced fee, your cute animal will become able to say "I Love You!," or whatever your selection (from over a dozen choices) is that you'd like the little cutie to say. The second addition to your bear is included within the bear's price...and that's its heart! In fact, your animal's little heart is so important that it gets its own little "ceremony" as you (or your child) place the heart inside the bear during the stuffing process. Last of all, there's some lacing to be tightened along the teddy bear's back...and, Voila! Your bear friend is finished! After you leave the Bear-Stuffing side of the store, you'll find that the rest of the workshop is filled with cute and stylish outfits in which you can dress your new stuffed animal. Styles constantly rotate so that there's something new for repeat guests...therefore, if you see an outfit that you really like, get it now!Aside from regular fashion clothing, you can choose seasonal outfits, as well. You'll find Christmas-themed outfits during the winter holiday season; trick-or-treating costumes during Halloween time; and sports team outfits during the appropriate months of the year (baseball uniforms in the summer, football jerseys in the fall, etc.) It doesn't matter what the season...the Build A Bear store will be celebrating the next upcoming holiday by offering you some very clever and inventive bears and costuming! Where else can you find a "colored egg suit" for a stuffed rabbit or chick? Or green, shamrock-imprinted Teddy Bears every St Patrick's Day? After your stuffed creation is dressed in its costume or latest fashion, it's time to pile on the accessories! Guests help the process along by pushing on a foot pedal that releases the fluff into the animals (as you can see in the photo to your right.)
