Furry polar bear in Seaworld San Diego's Wild Arctic attraction. Is the "Wild Arctic" an exhibit or a ride? It's BOTH! Visitors board a helicopter simulator and enjoy a wild motion simulator ride to enter the attraction's exhibit areas. Next, guests may wander at their leisure...enjoying views of beluga whales, walruses and, of course, polar bears.

Shamu and his trainer float across the water together. With a big friend like Shamu the whale, you don't need a rubber raft. What a fun way to relax! The trainers seem to be glowing with pride over the handsome appearance of their large orca-whale friend. 
Shamu gives his trainer a piggy-back ride onto the pool's shelf. From the look on his face, this whale trainer is supremely enjoying the ride! These shallow areas within a pool have become so well-associated with the Sea World shows that many people call them "Shamu shelves." These shelves are becoming a popular feature of both home and resort swimming pools because toddlers can wade in them (with supervision) and adults can sunbathe without getting hot and sweaty. One part of every Shamu show...which if fun for some guests, and fearful for others...is Shamu's "dowse the audience" time! In the picture of a giant spray of water above, you can see just how far he can send water cascading over the crowd. (And, if you ask me, I don't think this is one of his biggest splashes!)

Yesterday's picture of Shamu's trainer "surfing" upon his back just wasn't enough for me; so here's a second view of the trick. (OK, so I'm jealous; I wish it were me doing the surfing!)
