See any good ideas you might like for yourself, your family or your group?It isn't hard to find costumes at Halloween time---they're everywhere you turn, from party shops to discount warehouses...and even when you buy groceries or prescriptions at your local market or pharmacy! But, what about the other 11 months of the year? If you need costumes for a masquerade party, Renaissance fair, school production or holiday where not many people use costumes...well, it can be tricky to find them. On this page, you'll discover what some of your local options might be.
Which type of costume stores are on this list?
Costume stores which sell a general variety of disguises were included on this list. Not all costume stores include a selection appropriate for Halloween or masquerade party-goers, though. Examples of types of costume stores omitted from this list include dance costume stores, costume designers working solely with professionals, wig shops, magic shops, etc.For example, a dance costume shop which also includes a section of costumes suitable for the general public WOULD be found on this list. If the dance store ONLY sells costumes for rehearsals and recitals, then it would NOT be. Another requirement is for the costume store to have a website. It doesn't need to be fancy, and it doesn't need the capability to actually sell costumes online. However, having some type of a website is important to protect would-be customers from making a long drive "for nothing." Costume shops, unlike other types of stores, vary widely in what they carry. For example, not all carry vintage clothing; some offer only rentals (or only costumes for-sale.) Since costume shops are relatively scarce (and driving to them often involves traveling a bit of a distance,) it's important to customers to be able to see in advance which costume stores MIGHT have something they'd like...and which definitely would not. As a result, not every Central and NoCal costume store is listed below. But, hopefully, the stores which met the qualifications for making it onto the list will suit your needs and serve you well!
