There are Carlsbad, California budget hotels that your wallet will love!
In the slide show above, you're viewing pictures of some of the less expensive hotels near the Legoland theme park in Carlsbad, California. On this page, you'll be able to discover some good hotels and motels offering Legoland visitors some of the best deals.
How much does a budget motel or hotel cost near Legoland California?
Expect to pay $55 or more, but that's a big savings over the Legoland Resort Hotels!
Legoland has 2 resort hotels which are officially part of the "Legoland Resort." These are theCarlsbad Sheraton Hotel and the Grand Pacific Palisades Hotel (pictured to your left.) Also, Legoland itself is building a hotel...which will open in Summer, 2013!
Staying at any of these fabulous, kid-friendly hotels would add a special touch to your Legoland vacation...IF you can afford them. But not everyone can.
If you're heading to Legoland in the off-season, you might get a special deal to stay at one of these resort hotels for $100/night, particularly as part of a multi-night discount special. On the other hand, a family staying during the busy summer tourist season would be paying closer to $200 per night or more, because traveling during the busy season means that you'll be competing with many other vacationers for the supply of hotel rooms. It's simply an example of "supply and demand" in action...and so, if you're one of the many families who vacations during the busy summer season, you'll be facing premium prices.
Budget travelers know that you don't have to sleep in a fancy room to have a terrific time at Legoland. Most of the time, you won't be in your room anyway. And when you are there, you'll be sleeping.
So, fortunately, there are plenty of ways to lower your cost of staying near the Legoland theme park. On the rest of this page, we'll talk about what some of your options might be.
Map of Carlsbad, CA budget hotels near Legoland
Find the budget hotels closest to Legoland Park with the help of this Google Custom Map!
In the Google Custom Map above, you're viewing locations of hotels near the Legoland theme park in Carlsbad, California (and in nearby Encinitas, CA.)
Carlsbad is one of San Diego County's more upscale communities. Therefore, property values are higher than in some other areas of Southern California. On one hand, this means that budget hotels here may not be as cheap as you'd like them to be. On the other hand, crime is low in Carlsbad and staying in a discount hotel isn't going to put your family in harm's way here. You'll be breathing the same air and taking in the same views as the people who are staying in one of Carlsbad's luxury accommodations---and, Carlsbad does have a fair share of them.
Carlsbad is one of the quietest, nicest towns in Southern California. So is the nearby suburb of Encinitas. Nevertheless, one important thing you should note before your arrival is that nearly ALL of Encinitas and Carlsbad's cheaper hotels near Legoland lie adjacent to the freeway.
If you're noise-sensitive...or even if you're not...it's always best to venture away from home fully prepared. A good pair of silicone earplugs, like the find you can find at any Walmart or pharmacy, is a "must have" item in your travel bag. Never leave home without them; you never know when you'll need them.
2 other anti-noise tips are these: (1) Simply ask for a room that's not facing the freeway. If one is available, this will cut traffic noise significantly for you. (2) Buy a "sound conditioning machine" to tuck into your bag. These devices make a bland "white noise" that covers various sounds you may encounter at a hotel. Some machines even make noises like waterfalls or ocean waves!

The Carlsbad Motel 6 locations
Carlsbad's 3 Motel 6 locations are the absolute cheapest hotels you can get near Legoland
Motel 6, a leading chain of budget motels, has 3 locations in Carlsbad, plus 2 locations in nearby Oceanside, California.
A standard Motel 6 room is comfortable, clean and basic...but has all of the creature comforts most people need. They are short on space, because the room size is smaller than most hotels. Otherwise, they have most of the basic amenities that a traveler expects, including cable TV, swimming pool, vending machines, ice, wakeup calls and a 24 hour front desk. Wireless internet is available for a $3 extra fee. Motel 6 locations (including Carlsbad, CA) do not feature irons, hairdryers, coffee makers, microwaves or refrigerators. NOT having these amenities is one reason why Motel 6 is able to offer cheaper prices than other hotels. Note: At Motel 6, kids under 18 stay free; however, there is a small fee for 2nd, 3rd and 4th adults in the room (usually about $3-6 each.)
I've stayed at 2 of the three Motel 6 locations in Carlsbad. In the slide show at the top of this page, you can see pictures of the rooms (which I shot during my stays.) Motel 6 is my favorite budget hotel chain; I've stayed at many of their locations across the USA. It may be too "basic" to suit your tastes, but I like it because it's always the cheapest national chain. (I don't stay in "independent" motels; a chain always gives the guest an effective way to make complaints, if the need arises.) With as many nights each year as I stay away from home, the savings I get by choosing Motel 6 adds up to a good amount.
Not all of the Carlsbad Motel 6 locations are exactly the same. The Carlsbad East location was recently converted from being a Red Roof Inn, which is a chain of sister-hotels to Motel 6.
The Red Roof Inns are owned by Accor Hotels, the French company that also owns Motel 6. Because the Red Roof Inns cater to travelers looking for a mid-priced...not bottom-of-the-line...type of lodging, the Red Roof Inns are fitted with trendier decor details, such as stylish lighting fixtures, paintings, and framed mirrors---things which are lacking in the usual Motel 6 rooms.
The Carlsbad East Motel 6 location (pictured to your left and right) used to be a Red Roof Inn. The interior of these rooms still has the flashier fixtures of the Red Roof Inn, making this my personal favorite location of the Carlsbad Motel 6 motels. The exterior, however, is very basic-looking.
The Motel 6 Carlsbad East motel has a great location. It's within walking distance of the popular Carlsbad Premium Outlets, an terrific outlet mall that many people like to visit either before or after seeing Legoland. The Carlsbad Flower Fields are also a stone's throw away...and Legoland is only a 5 minute drive.
The Motel 6 Carlsbad South is another good option. You'll enjoy its nice-looking exterior, and beach-lovers will enjoy the fact that it's very close to the Carlsbad beaches. It's still close to Legoland; only a 10 minute drive.
Here are the addresses for the 3 Carlsbad Motel 6 locations:
1.) Carlsbad East Motel 6 address is 6117 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Directions to this Motel 6: From I-5, take the Palomar Airport Rd exit heading east, then turn south onto Paseo Del Norte. This is only one exit away from the Cannon Rd freeway exit (which is used by Legoland visitors.) Yes, you CAN get to Legoland without using the freeway from this location, in case there should be a traffic jam on the interstate.
2.) Carlsbad South Motel 6 address is 750 Raintree Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92011. Directions: from I-5, take the Poinsettia Lane exit heading west; turn north onto Raintree Drive. This Carlsbad Motel 6 location offers travelers a basic room, but with a nicer exterior than the other locations.
3.) Carlsbad Downtown Motel 6 address is 1006 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Directions: From Interstate 5, take the Carlsbad Village Drive exit and head west to the motel's entrance drive. This location is close to Legoland Park; it's only 2 freeway exits north of Cannon Rd (which is Legoland's freeway exit.)
Motel 6 website: For further information about these locations, to check prices, or to find other Motel 6's in other cities, here's a link to the www.Motel6.com website which is easy to use and will answer all of your questions. Note: Motel 6 locations generally charge a small "extra person" fee for 2nd, 3rd & 4th guests over the age of 18.
