Or, it may NOT. Actually, all you need to qualify for the term "large families" when it comes to hotels is to have more than 2 children!Some hotels may let you squeeze a 3rd child into the room; others may not. Sometimes it's a matter of hotel policy, while at other times, it's the fire marshal who has handed down these rules. Whatever the case, by the time you add a 4th child to the group, it's a cinch to say that you WON'T find a hotel that will let your family stay in just one room. Renting two rooms at any hotel, motel or inn is one common solution. But, as large families already know, this isn't an ideal solution. When only older kids are involved, it isn't as complicated as when the children's age range falls more into the "babies, toddlers and preschoolers" category. In that case, Mom and Dad might even need to split up, one staying in each of the two rooms, in order that fits of hysterical crying and moans of "I'm scared!" won't be heard. Even when you can split the family easily into two units, there's just something about being in two different rooms that may interrupt everyone's sense of togetherness---which is the very reason you're taking your vacation in the first place! The most common options for different accommodations include-- 2.) Condo rentals also feature several rooms, just like a suite, but they DO have full kitchen facilities...usually featuring a "regular" oven in addition to a microwave, plus a complete set of cookware and dining utensils. Families save money towards paying the higher cost of these units because they can eat in the condo, avoiding high bills at restaurants. (On the other hand, the act of cooking for a family does take away time from the family activities, and means that some members of the family won't really be getting a good rest on their vacation!) 3.) Vacation Rentals, which can be empty houses or apartments placed for rent by either their owners or by an agency, are another choice for larger groups and families. Vacation rentals are not as easy to book, because each unit is completely different from all others, and you can't be exactly sure about what you're getting until you're actually on the premises. Finding vacation condo units near LegolandGrand Pacific Palisades resort hotelYou're not going to find that same over-abundance of available condo units when you visit Southern California. While some companies have been trying to push timeshare condos in this area, they haven't been as successful in capturing people's interest here. But, that doesn't mean you won't find any condos for rent at all. On the contrary---the Grand Pacific Palisades hotel has condo units available...and it's right next door to Legoland Park! In fact, it's within walking distance. It's even a official part of the Legoland resort complex! You've already viewed many pictures of the Grand Pacific Palisades resort in the slides at the top of this page. Isn't it lovely and modern? The Grand Pacific Palisades hotel calls its multi-room units with kitchens "villas." They come in one, two and three-bedroom sizes. While you might feel out-of-place at some upscale resorts when you bring a large family, you won't feel that way at the Grand Pacific Palisades. After all, its affiliation with Legoland means that quite a few families with kids stay here! They have separate swimming pools for adults and kids...and (at least during school breaks) the family pools stays busy from morning until evening. Discounts at the Grand Pacific Palisades: Because it's affiliated with the Hilton Vacation Club...and because the Hilton Club is currently trying to sell timeshares at the nearby Pacific MarBrisa resort...you can get discounts on your hotel stay and Legoland (or SeaWorld) tickets by attending a two hour sales presentation. You should note, however, that if you purchase a timeshare then later default on your payment (for whatever reason, even job loss) you could adversely affect your credit. Still, there are those who are happy with their discount (but don't make a purchase,) and those who do buy, and are very happy with their new time share unit. Residence Inn of Carlsbad and OceansideLarge families may already be familiar with Marriott's popular chain of Residence Inns. There are two Residence Inn locations close to Legoland; in fact, the Carlsbad location is only a stone's throw from the theme park. (The other, situated in Oceanside, is only a few minutes away by car.) There are also several other Residence Inns in greater San Diego, if you'd care to stay in another location (eg. closer to Sea World, if your family will be visiting there, too.)At Residence Inns, you'll experience "the comforts of home," just as they advertise. Especially important to families are their complete kitchenette facilities, where you can make full meals...or snack on frozen treats like ice cream...without paying high restaurant prices. Depending on the size of your family, you can choose a one or two bedroom unit; either one will have a separate living area, as well. Pets are welcome. Residence Inn discounts: AAA membership will get you a discount rate, and the Residence Inns are also part of the Marriott hotel group's frequent-stay program.
