They're The Storyteller's Cafe (the hotel's casual dining restaurant), and The Napa Rose (an upscale, award-winning restaurant featuring California Cuisine.)Side note: In the photo to your left, you see the tall lobby of Disney's Grand Hotel. Reminiscent of National Park lodges, such as the lodge at Yellowstone Park, Disney's Grand Californian features rustic-looking, whole-log construction in the atrium area. Though not all of the resort hotel features whole logs in its construction, wood is used extensively as a building material throughout the Grand Californian. The Storyteller's Cafe and the Napa Rose are no exception to this "wood is king" rule at the hotel. At the Napa Rose, you'll notice a rich wood paneling on the walls, and an aura of understated elegance. The Storyteller's Cafe also features plenty of wood in its decor, along with storytelling scenes concerning legends of the days of yore.
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Restaurants -- Storyteller's Cafe In the mornings, the Storyteller Cafe is host to one of Disneyland's character dining experiences---the Chip and Dale Critter Breakfast. You'll be able to feast on an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet featuring all of your morning-time favorite foods, as Chip, Dale, and/or some of their friends mingle with the crowd. You can learn more about the Chip and Dale character breakfast at Disney's Grand Californian by clicking on the following link to go to the Disneyland Character Dining page of this website!
After breakfast, the Storyteller Cafe converts back into a "regular" restaurant. The Disney characters leave, the buffet is put away, and you'll order your meal from a menu. Plus...you'll also experience some truly yummy aromas; the Storyteller's Cafe has an "open kitchen," which leads to the dining area having a greater-then-usual amount of mouth-watering smells wafting around the restaurant. Just open the front doors of the restaurant---and prepare your nose for an olfactory treat!
Menu items available at the Storyteller's Cafe (as of March 2006) are---***Burgers and Sandwiches...You may order a cheeseburger or turkey burger and French fries, or a grilled chicken melt. Either selection runs around $10. ***Pastas...You may order a four-cheese ravioli, or spaghetti with meat sauce (served with garlic bread.) These selections run $13-14. ***Pizza...The Storyteller's cafe offers a "personal pizza," a 9-inch pizza with your choice of toppings. Meat toppings include pepperoni, sausage and ham. A variety of veggies, plus pineapple (for the ham pizza!) are available for toppings, as well. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven to enhance their flavor. Cost for a pizza is around $12-13. Unfortunately, this price only includes only one topping! Extra toppings add over $1 each to the price. ***Complete dinners...You'll be able to choose from a variety of entrees, which come completed with side dishes (which isn't always the case at the most upscale restaurants at the Disneyland Resort.) Perhaps the culinary creation which contributes most to the wonderful aroma which pervades the Storyteller's Cafe is the Santa Maria-Style BBQ Ribs. Mmmm! The rich smell of barbeque sauce floating through the air at Storyteller's will make this choice hard NOT to order! The BBQ baby back pork ribs come served with French fries, and cost around $20. Other entrees include Linquini with grilled lemon prawns, served with a citrus/tomato butter sauce; price around $22. Two fish dishes include the grilled salmon fillet and the seared swordfish. Both of these are served with seasonal veggies and potatoes on the side. Prices are in the $20--21 range. A less-expensive entree is the oven-roasted chicken/mashed potatoes, which runs around $16. On the other hand, the most expensive entree is the grilled filet mignon, served with vegetables and potatoes, priced around $25. In addition to the main dishes offered at the Storytellers Cafe, you may order appetizers, soups, salads, and desserts. One especially interesting dessert at the Storyteller's Cafe is the chocolate fondue for two, served with biscotti, poundcake, banana, berries, marshmallow and pineapple. It's an impressive-looking way to end a meal; price is around $15 for this dessert option. Other dessert options include berry-topped cheesecake, fruit coppler with ice cream, and a warm brownie topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Dessert prices hover around $7 each (as do most of the salads and appetizers.)
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel Restaurants -- Napa Rose Fine dining featuring "light" California Cuisine is what you may expect to encounter at the Napa Rose restaurant, the Disney Grand Californian Hotel's upscale restaurant. The "winter" menu for 2006 (which was still being served as of March 2006) included the following entrees---***Lamb combo dish featuring both roasted rack of lamb and Lamb osso buco; $37 ***Grilled pork medallions, $29 ***Braised angus beef short rib with pasta, $31 ***Grilled chicken breast,$27 ***Grilled beef tenderloin, $37. ***Hawaiian Snapper, $34 ***Pacific king salmon, $28 ***California white shrimp, $30 Actually, the menu sounds more appealing than I'm making it sound. Each entree comes with a rather lengthy description designed to get your taste-buds into the "feed me!" mood. I just don't want to write down all that lavish description. Suffice it to say, your entree will be served nicely cooked, well seasoned, and attractively presented. Another dining option at the Napa Rose Restaurant is the Prix Fixe meal. For $75, this fine-dining adventure comes complete with salad, appetizer, entree, vegetables and dessert. Naturally, this menu was created by the Napa Rose's award-winning chefs, just as are all the entrees featured at this Grand Californian venue. For diners not ordering the prix fixe meal, the menu---of course---offers a complete selection of other appetizers, salads and soups. Soups and salads at the Napa Rose run in the $10--14 range; appetizer prices range from about $12 to $17.
