Halloween Contest Voting Page
Cast your votes between November 7th and 23rd!
In the slides above, you're viewing pictures of the Halloween Costume Photo Contest "Tots through Teens" division. There's a 2nd slide show with the adults, pets and group photos, too! There were so many contestants that they couldn't all fit into one slide show (which has a 100-photo limit.) To vote, head to the ballots at the end of this page!Slide show tips: 1.) Slides don't appear: Try reloading the page. Show may not appear during Photobucket.com's down times.   2.) Jerky movement; photo titles not appearing: Try viewing in a different internet browser. Unfortunately, Photobucket slide shows seem jerkier and titles sometimes disappear when viewed with the Firefox browser. Internet Explorer runs the slideshow more smoothly. (Fortunately, over 80% of this site's visitors use Internet Explorer.)
Here's the slide show for the 2nd half of the contestants:
Aren't they great? The website was very luck that, in its 2nd-ever contest, over 250 entry photos were submitted, including the 180 unique costume pictures that you're viewing in the slides above. (The rest of the photos are "repeats" of some of these costumes.) Extra costume photos: You may see a slide show of extra photos at the end of this page. You may use the extra pictures as a reference when deciding who'll get your vote, if you wish. This has been a remarkable contest, and the contestant's entries represent a selection of the very best Halloween costumes that I've ever seen!
What are the contest categories?
Many prizes & categories were added because of the many contestants who entered!
The October 2008 Halloween Costume Photo Contest originally began with the offer of 3 prizes: Grand Prize ($100,) 2nd place ($50,) and 3rd place ($25.) There was a promise: if more than 50 contestant photos were entered, more prizes would be added. As you've already read, there were MANY more entries than were expected. Categories had to be developed and new prizes added. Here is a list of the final category list and prizes offered: 1.) Grand Prize, the top vote-getter of ALL the contestants in all categories ($100 prize) 2.) 1st Prize, Tots thru Teens contest: other than the grand prize winner, the highest vote-getter of all contestants in the Tots thru Teens division (seen in the 1st slide show) will get a $50 prize 3.) 1st Prize, Groups/Adults/Pets contest: other than the grand prize winner, the highest vote-getter of all contestants in the Groups/Adults/Pets division (seen in the 2nd slide show) will get a $50 prize 4.) 1st prize, Baby Costume Category Winner: The adorable babies in the contest have a category all to themselves. The winner gets a $25 prize. 5.) 1st prize, Toddler Costume Category Winner: the highest vote-getter in the Toddler group will win a $25 prize. 6.) 1st prize, Children, Purchased Costumes: Children who entered wearing a purchased costume had the burden of creating a cute pose, great makeup, or some other way to set themselves apart from the crowd. The winner of this category gets $25. 7.) 1st prize, Children, Home-sewn Costumes: We've seen some talented families whipping up beautiful creations in this contest. This category gives these talented individuals a place to compete "amongst their own." ($25 prize) 8.) 1st prize, Children, Constructed Costumes: Other families ignored the sewing machine, but turned to the glue guns, table saws, and cans of spray paint to construct truly unique costumes that the kids will remember for years to come. ($25 prize.) 9.) 1st prize, Children's Pairs Category Winner: When brothers & sisters team up, they can make a formidable duo for other contestants to compete against! Character pairs from movies or the comics can be done...or each sibling can "do their own thing." ($25 prize.) 10.) 1st prize, Tween/Teen Category Winner: One of the smallest groups of contestants is the tween/teenage category. A wide range of ages needed to be used to make a complete grouping! But, though many teens may be reluctant to enter, those who did showed some brilliant creativity! ($25) 11.) Political costumes: Only a handful of political costumes were entered. They'll group together with other un-filled categories to share their $25 prize. All political costumes are separated because of the bad experience a friend had. He spent hours on making a great-looking original costume...only to be defeated in his local contest by a man in a mask! That's not going to happen in this contest, I've vowed. We're here to elect great costumes, not re-run the presidential election. 12.) 1st place, "Groups of 3 or more" Category Winner: Some groups are all adults; others are all kids; and still others are family groups of all ages. Group costumes are great because they can "bring to life" a whole cast of favorite characters at one time! ($25) 13.) 1st Place, Adult Category Winner: The over-18 crowd came up with some really inventive costumes this year! They're ALL terrific...and the top vote-getter wins the $25 prize. 14.) 1st Place, Adult Pairs category: From familiar duos to character-pairs invented by the contestants themselves, you'll surely enjoy viewing these great couples costumes! ($25 prize) 15.) 1st Place, Mixed Pairs/Other Pairs Category: This is a category into which other types of "pairs" costumes were placed. This includes adult/child pairs, adult/pet pairs, and animal pairs. ($25) 16.) 1st place Dog Costume Category Winner: You really won't believe how great the doggie costume contestants are this go-around. You'll be wanting to adopt an adorable Fido for yourself (if you don't already have one!) ($25 prize) 17.) Other Pets: this is another incomplete category; it has only a handful of kitty cat contestants...and one goat! It will share a prize with other incomplete categories. The contestants may be few...but they're cute as pie! ($25 prize) 18.) 1st prize Scary Costume Category Winner: This category sums up the very essence of Halloween for many people---getting to look scary, act scary...and make other people scream for Mama! In one sense, this category is at the end because it's "the best for last!" (On the other hand, there are voters who refuse to even LOOK at the scary costumes...so that's the REAL reason they're at the end of the list!) ($25 prize.)
Cast your ballots NOW!
Last chance to vote? Sunday, 11/23 at midnight PST!
Ballots are just below! You'll be able to come & vote clear through Sunday, November 23, 2008!Entering an email address is NOT required for this contest. This is because of complaints by people who would have liked to vote in the last contest, but who do NOT give out their email addresses. We'll try it this way, at least for this one contest. If it works, then that's great. If not, there will be a different way to vote in the next contest. The one big rule is that your family can send
only 5 VOTES PER HOUSEHOLD OR OFFICE PER DAY!The ballots will automatically register when the computers in your home are used for more than 5 votes per day. Extra votes over the limit will be deleted. Even in the first few hours of the voting, a few people have sent as many as 14 votes from the same home or office. Fortunately, however, the vast majority of voters are wonderful! But, if you're one of the few people giving yourself too many votes, stop today! If you spam the contest, you won't be helping yourself. All votes above the limit of 5 from the same computer address (IP Address) have been eliminated and will be eliminated in the future. The vote-spamming needs to stop immediately! Guilty IP addresses will be banned from voting, beginning November 9th, 2008. Tips to avoiding accidental vote spamming: (1) Have your friends & family vote from their OWN homes, schools or libraries...NOT from your computer. (2) Send your co-workers a link to the voting page so they can vote from their own homes after work. A little bit of planning can avoid accidental spam! Let's keep this contest fun!
Banned IP AddressesThe following IP addresses have been banned for flagrant over-voting:24.5.246.128 98.221.249.230 12.199.210.203 65.173.91.107 Remember, IP addresses are "anonymous." I don't know who you are, so I can't contact you. This message will serve as your only notice. All votes coming in from this IP Address will be stricken. This is a very sad thing for me. You've affected not only yourself, but all the other contestants who would have had your vote.
Ballot: Tot to Teen Division
Ballot: Group/Adult/Pet Division
After the voting ends on November 23rd, the automatically-tabulated votes will be checked and double-checked for faulty or excess entries. The list of winners will be compiled...and then, the winners will be announced on this page November 25th.If you are a winner, you will get an email informing you of the happy event! I will mail you a "prize acceptance form" to sign and return. Then, once I receive it, you'll be mailed your check. You'll also get to have your winning photos posted on a permanent "contest winners page" on this website!
No contestant may win in 2 different categories!
If you win in more than one category, you'll need to decide which prize you'll accept. Naturally, if you're the grand prize winner, you'll accept the top prize instead of a "lower" one. Some prizes, however, are equal. If you have a child's costume in one category and a pet costume in another, for example, you'll have to make the pick of which prize you'll accept. Having the largest possible number winners can make the maximum number of contestants happy! I wish everyone could win. These are truly great costumes...and most DESERVE to win! But, if you don't win a prize, thank you very much for your participation. Please feel free to enter again next year!
Slide show of extra contest pictures
In the slide show above, you're viewing extra Halloween costume pictures which were sent as extra snapshots by some of the contestants. (Not all of the entries have extra snapshots.) If you like, you can refer to these other views of the costumes while you're deciding which of the entries will get your vote.
