Halloween Disney CharactersMeet 'n greet them, take photos, & get autographs!
If you love spotting different Disney costumed characters on your visits to Disneyland Park, what could be more fun than seeing Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and other Disney characters wearing their cute Halloween costumes?
Whether you like collecting autographs of the Disney characters, taking photos with them...or just plain seeing how many different Disney characters you can spot...adding the "sighting" of Micky and his friends all dressed in their October trick-or-treat finery is a great addition to your collection. On this page, you can see photos of different costumed characters wearing their Halloween disguises, and discover which characters you're likely to find...and where. The Halloween Disney Characters appear both at Disneyland theme park (as part of the "Disney Halloween Time" celebration) and at the special after-hours event called "Mickey's Halloween Treat (which takes place at Disney's California Adventure on selected evenings throughout October.) On this page, we'll talk about Halloween characters you may see at both of these fun festivities. In the photo to your left, you can see Mickey and Minnie Mouse dressed in orange-toned Halloween costumes as they greet my family at the Mickey's Halloween Treat party. Though the Halloween Treat event is an "extra fee" activity, you don't have to pay extra to see Mickey in his special costume. For the price of your regular admission ticket, you'll be able to find him waiting for you at Disneyland Park, as well!
Halloween Disney Characters at Disneyland Park
October at Disneyland Park is a wonderland of beautiful orange and gold decorations. From ornately and imaginatively carved Jack O Lanterns to hay bales & scarecrows, adults will delight in the attractive seasonal displays they'll find throughout the theme park.
For kids, though, one of the highlights of Disneyland Park's Halloween festivities is getting to see Mickey Mouse in his Halloween costume! If you'd like to see Mickey & his friends all dressed up for trick-or-treating, head to the Main Street USA section of the park, where you'll find the Main Street Pumpkin Festival in full swing. AND, Mickey Mouse all decked out, just awaiting your visit!
As you can see in the picture to your left, Mickey Mouse has chosen a magician's outfit for his Halloween costume, complete with tall top hat and a satiny cape! Can Mickey pull a rabbit out of his magician's hat? Nobody knows for sure...but one thing IS certain. Whenever Mickey Mouse steps onto Main Street, a crowd of eager children and their parents appear as if "out of thin air!"
Goofy, on the other hand, has chosen a Halloween costume on a more whimsical note...Goofy is wearing a not-so-scary skeleton costume! His black jumpsuit is covered with bold white pictures of skeleton bones! A tall, black hat completes his trick-or-treating costume. Look for these Disney characters near the Disneyland railroad station in a large plaza on Main Street. Sometimes they'll stand in the center of the plaza, or other times on the sidewalks near either City Hall or the theater.
Halloween Disney Characters at Mickey's Halloween Treat
A great place to amass Halloween Disney Character photos and autographs for your collection is at the "Mickey's Halloween Treat" special event. This is held after normal closing hours at the Disney California Adventure theme park...which faces Disneyland Park across a pedestrian plaza.
That's the GOOD news. The BAD news is that Mickey's Halloween Treat is an extra-pay event. Even if you've got Disneyland annual passes for your family...or even if you've already paid to enter the theme park the same day as a Halloween Treat party is being held...you'll nevertheless have to pay a separate admission fee for the after-closing-time Halloween activities. If you'd like further information about the Mickey's Halloween Treat festivities, please visit the Disneyland Halloween Events page of this website.
If you've made the decision to attend Mickey's Halloween Treat, then a LOT of character viewing will be waiting for you at this celebration!
There are several ways you can view Disney characters...and interact with them!...at Mickey's Halloween Treat--- 1.) Watch the Mickey's Trick or Treat on the Street Cavalcade parade...where characters not only ride on the floats, but jump off to dance with onlookers! You can visit the Mickeys Halloween Parade page of this website to see pictures and get details about this cute procession. 2.) Head to one of the dance parties at Mickey's Halloween Treat. You'll not only SEE Disney and Pixar characters...you'll jump 'n jive with them! Check out the Dance with Disney Characters page of this website to see pictures & get details of these lively parties! 3.) Head to one of the Disney Character Meet 'n Greet stations at Mickey's Halloween Treat...or grab the opportunity to meet one of the characters as they stroll by. This page will be talking about the Meet 'n Greet areas and strolling costumed characters you'll find at this after-hours celebration.
You'll find Character Meet and Greet areas set up in various areas of Disney's California Adventure. Pick up an event schedule and map as you enter the park. You'll find all of the character photo stations conveniently listed on your guide. Simply pick your favorite characters and head straight towards them! During the Mickey's Halloween Treat party, the "Pacific Wharf" section of Disney's California Adventure theme park is turned into an activity center called "Pirate Wharf." You'll find a pirate-themed dance party, games and coloring activities. AND, you'll find a pirate-themed photo backdrop where costumed Halloween Disney characters appear! You can see the backdrop clearly in one of the nearby photos...and pictures of "Pirate Donald Duck" and "Pirate Goofy" to your right.
If you'd like to take photos with Pirate Donald or Goofy, head to the pirate backdrop (it's plainly marked on your map of events) and simply join the lineup of eager families! Since the characters appear one at a time, you'll have to make your way through the line TWICE...at different times during the evening...in order to catch a photo & autograph opportunity with BOTH Donald and Goofy. If you'd like to see Pirate Chip (seen in the photo above) and Pirate Dale, you're in luck---there won't be any standing in line! Simply head to the Pirate dance party (at the stage near the photographer's backdrop.) Costumed pirates abound on the dance floor, and taking photos with them can make for some cute snapshots. In addition, throughout the evening Pirate Chip and Dale make their appearances at the dance. You can boogie down with them...or simply wave, smile, and snap a picture!
Other Character Greetings at Mickey's Halloween Treat
Luckily, not ALL of the Disney costumed characters at Mickey's Halloween Treat have a long line that you must join in order to meet them. Some characters simply "stroll about" the party, greeting guests whenever and wherever they encounter them!
The evil witch from Snow White was one such strolling Disney character. She was so very cordial when I took her photo, it was hard to imagine her as being "evil!"
Two Disney film "characters" that were on display at California Adventure were from the animated movie, "Cars." In the picture to your right, you can see the show's "star," a shiny red sports car named Lightning McQueen. During the course of the movie, Ligntning learns that there's more to life than winning races and being the center of attention. "His" photo can make a fine addition to anyone's collection of Disney and Pixar characters!
Everyone's favorite bear, Winnie the Pooh, was also strolling along in the Hollywood Backlot. He met & hugged children, signed autographs, and posed for pictures.
Goliath Lion (from JoJo's Circus) stood by an adorable Halloween backdrop for photo-posing. Jo Jo was there, as well, but my picture of him didn't turn out! At every photo backdrop, you'll find a professional Disney photographer who will take your picture. Then, if your own photos don't turn out, you can order a print taken by the Disney staff member!
But rest assured, you're always free to take your own snapshots, as well...and you're never pressured to buy any of the pictures taken by photographers either at Disneyland Park or at Disney's California Adventure. In fact, a new policy allows you to view all of the photos taken by Disney staff members on-line (free of charge) for 30 days before making your decision!
In the picture to your right, you can see the cute "Mickey Mouse jack o lantern" photographic backdrop used by both Jo Jo and Goliath the lion.
Let's see a different type of Disney character---next up on our circle tour of Halloween pix, it's swaggering Captain Jack Sparrow! (If you're just joining this tour, keep pressing the eerie snakeskin-grey buttons...like the one above...and you'll see a ton of photos about SoCal Halloween fun!)
