Free ebooks on How to Start a WebsiteYou don't need to rush out to Barnes and Noble and spend a bunch of money on website-starting books! Site Build It (aka SBI) is the web company that powers my site...and it has a whole bunch of FREE information about "how to start a website." (Which you can download without obligation. They have plenty of money; they only want yours if you truly would like to join them.) It's a "general" type book...a good place to talk about writing for WHATEVER field you're interested in pursuing with your website. It's called the Netwriting Masters Course free ebook. 2.) How to build a SALES website (any kind of sales)--- You can read about "pre-selling" to warm up your customers with the following Make Your Content PREsell free ebook 3.)How to build an AFFILIATE SALES website--- If you don't have anything to sell, you can still build a website which focuses on selling something. How? By getting in on one (or many) "affiliate sales programs." You might sell anything from ebooks to tangible goods. This free SBI Ebook focuses on teaching you the basic points of building an "affiliate sales" website...not matter what type of product or service you eventually choose to promote. You can help the "newbies" in your hobby learn the ropes...while you have fun building a website all about what you know & love best! But, knowing about a hobby doesn't mean that you know how to build a WEBSITE about that pursuit. You can learn the details of turning your ideas into finished pages by reading the "Make Your Knowledge Sell" free SBI ebook. My experiences with starting an SBI websiteI think that Site Build It! is a great company. SBI helped me to turn MY hobby (travel and sightseeing) into a busy website. I knew almost NOTHING about computers & technical stuff before I began, yet see how many web pages I've built since Oct. 7, 2005? (Over 450+, and more coming on-line frequently!) I could build this website so quickly because using Site Build It's "construction" tools are so easy to use! (If you did decide to host your website through them, it wouldn't be a bad decision at all. Their "building block" method of creating sites is PERFECT for no-nothings like me! Maybe you fit into that category, too?) I'm also very pleased with the service I receive for the price. It's $25 per month (payable annually), which is the same price I paid in early 2005 for a "hobby" website with another different company. Yet, I get so much more with Site Build It! Site Build It! does more than TELL you how to start a website. They HELP you build a website. They have customer support standing by to answer your technical questions. They have an active forum of users who let you in on their tips and tricks. They have many successful clients...and over 200 these clients have volunteered to serve as "examples" and let you look through their websites for ideas. (Note: though the price works out to $25/month, you do need to pay by the year, which works out to $299 USD. Having the pay-in-advance system weeds out the people who aren't really serious about starting a website. It keeps them from wasting money by making several small monthly payments, only to later drop out.) Best of all, Site Build It submits every web page you build to the Search Engines---you know, Google, Yahoo and MSN/Windows Live. (When I was with the other company, I had to find my own "submission service" and pay them an extra fee to do this. I must have picked a submission company that wasn't very on-the-ball, because my old website never, ever showed up on any search engine results even after 5 months---which is when I gave up and dropped out!) With Site Build It managing my site, I started showing up on the MSN search engine after only 1 month---and the Google Search Engine after only 4 months! Now, that's FAST! After my bad experience with the other company, I was really impressed! Here's a readout of my traffic stats for the time I've been on-line with SBI. In the table below, you'll see how the number of my "unique visitors per month" has built up since my starting date in October, 2005. (Some visitors, of course, came to the website more than once during the month. These figures simply measure the number of DIFFERENT people who came to the website, no matter how many times they came nor how many pages they read.) To sum things up, I started building this website in October 2005 and the website had a total of 144 UNIQUE viewers the first month. (This number was mostly thanks to fellow Site Build It members checking out my website--which they discovered via the SBI forums.) During the first month of its existence, the website did not receive visitors from any search engine. But, just one month later, I received 668 unique visitors. One of the search engines had begun indexing my website (as they will do for YOUR website...and this is all FREE traffic!) By December, a second search engine started listing my pages...and the traffic started coming in at a pace which astounded me. And, the traffic has only gotten better with time! (But keep in mind that search engines send people to FINISHED PAGES. If you don't take the time to build pages, there won't be any traffic coming to your website no matter HOW old it gets.) By October 2006, one year later, I got 37,995 unique visitors for the month. OK, so my website didn't "explode" into popularity like YouTube! But, on the other hand, I was VERY pleased at the traffic I received. This site was only 1 year old; I was an "unknown" in the travel industry (and still am); AND I'd only known how to use the computer for a short while. (I just learned how to check my email in April 2004!) By October 2007, my 2 year "anniversary" with this SBI website, over 250,000 visitors came for the month. It was really a thrill! By this point in time, I had readers giving me feedback about which topics they want know more about...and "more coverage of Halloween events" was one of them. It was gratifying to see the visitors pour in after building the pages they said they'd like to see! How to Start a Website: Choose Your Web Host Wisely!---Building a website takes DAILY PERSISTENCE and work. It's like getting married or having a baby; it requires THAT much dedication to the project! And yet, if you're really SURE that you want to start a website...why would you want to waste all your work building it with a company who can't give you these results? If you choose a cheap-o company, you may end up paying as much or MORE than Site Build It's $25/month fee...because the other companys' cheap prices are just TEASER prices. The cheap prices for a website don't include any of the add-ons that you need to run a successful on-line hobby or business. You'll continually get offers trying to "upgrade" your website with extra-fee features. If you really go ahead and purchase the add-on features...and yes, you may really NEED more features in order to make your website a success...then you'll find that cheap companies really AREN'T cheap after all! I spent time reading on the SBI website (or the free Ebooks listed above) every day for nearly 2 months before I decided to build this website through Site Build It! No one at SBI cared that I was hanging around so much! No salesman ever contacted me. I didn't even have to leave my name or email address to do all of this free reading. They didn't even send me emails reminding me to buy something! Tip: take your time, follow all the links at Site Build It, and download any free ebooks that you come across (there are still more free ebooks than the ones I listed above!) While you COULD simply skim through their pages, you will learn more if you STUDY their free material. You wouldn't spend $40 on a web-building book at Barnes and Noble just to skim through it and throw it away, would you? NO, of course not---because you spent your hard-earned money on that book! Well then, don't treat Site Build It's info like it's "nothing" just because it's free. You'll really save money you would have spent at the bookstore if you read their site thoroughly! You can look over these websites for ideas in designing your own site. You can see what "worked" for REAL PEOPLE like yourself! (Note: you may not COPY any of the websites; there have been a few people that thought they were sample sites to use. You don't want someone else's website; you want your OWN. But, you're welcome to find layouts or topics that you like and do something that's somewhat similar.)
