If you're looking for family-styled Halloween entertainment, Knott's Berry Farm stages the cute and popular "Camp Spooky" kids celebration!

For the month of October every year, Camp Spooky "takes over" the Camp Snoopy area of the Knott's Berry Farm theme park. If you head to Knott's Berry Farm on a weekday, you'll be able to enjoy looking at the cute Halloween decorations within Camp Spooky...and if you attend on a Saturday or Sunday, you'll find that this entire section of the park comes alive with the sights and sounds of happy children enjoying a just-for-kids Halloween party!

Many nights during October will alive as well...but with the sound of screams rather than giggles! Since 1973, Knott's Berry Farm has been staging a Halloween Haunt that was not only the FIRST for the theme park industry, but is also remains the BIGGEST of all Halloween Haunts...WORLDWIDE! Knott's Berry Farm has become a national...if not international...destination for lovers of the macabre!

On this page, we'll talk about these two Knott's Berry Farm Halloween celebrations: the cute Camp Spooky for kids, and the Knott's Scary Farm for teens & adults. For Knott's Halloween Haunt information, please see the 2nd half of this page.

Knotts Halloween -- Adorable "Camp Spooky" for kids!

If you love cute kid's Halloween celebrations, you'll surely enjoy Knotts' Berry Farm's "Camp Spooky."

Here's a list of the special attractions you can expect to find at the Knott's Camp Spooky Halloween party...but, remember...these events will happen only on Saturdays and Sundays during October every year, between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. Camp Spooky is always a weekend-only activity.

Cartoon of pirate map

***Pirate's Treasure Hunt! What it is: You'll pick up a treasure map, which is marked with 5 different locations. You'll assist your child in finding these different "X marks the spot" locations...and when you get there, you'll collect "pirate booty" (which will be pirate-themed trinkets such as eye patches, bandanas and coins. Yes, your child will get to keep these "treasures!") Where should you go to get started playing? Head to the Water Tower that you'll see near the entrance to Camp Snoopy...er, I mean, Camp Spooky. There, you may pick up your treasure map, plus a bag for collecting the pirate booty. There is no extra charge (other than regular Knott's admission) for your kids to participate in this event.

***Trick or Treat stations! At 4 different trick or treating booths, your children can pick up some Halloween candy...doled out by friendly monsters! The monsters' costumes, by the way, is supposedly meant to enchant the children, not scare them. Nevertheless, you'll want to be at the side of the very youngest kids...who just might be frightened, nevertheless.

***Captain Jack's Haunted Hideaway Maze! If you head further into the Camp Snoopy/Spooky section of the park, you'll come to the "barrel bridge" area...past Lucy's Lunch Box restaurant. That's where you'll find a maze geared for kids called "Captain Jack's Haunted Hideaway." Though the Camp Spooky celebration is geared towards the "age 3 thru 11" crowd, the Haunted Hideaway maze seems geared less to the toddlers and more towards the school-age kids. You'll find skeletons inside that preschoolers will likely find to be scary. On the other hand, pirate-costumed employees inside the maze don't try to "frighten kids to death"...but rather aim for more light-hearted fun.

Picture of Knott's Camp Spooky store window, featuring Peanuts character Halloween items ***The Charlie Brown Pirate Show! Head to the Camp Snoopy/Spooky stage, where you'll find that the "usual" music-and-dancing show (featuring large costumed Peanuts characters, like Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus) has been replaced with a special Halloween show!

***Peanuts characters in Halloween costumes! Your kids will be able to meet 'n' greet the Peanuts characters strolling thoughout the Camp Snoopy section of Knott's Berry Farm---and the characters will have on their Halloween costumes! Come see Snoopy wearing his pirate's eyepatch! What a great opportunity of taking adorable photos of the kids!

***Pirate Pumpkin Carving! Camp Spooky/Snoopy will have pumpkin carving stations where kids can use special non-sharp pumpkin cutting tools to create their favorite pirate faces (or other designs) in pumpkins.

***Face Painting! There will be stations set up in Camp Spooky/Snoopy where kids can get their faces painted and/or color hair spray applied. Head to the area towards the rear of Camp Spooky where Snoopy's Bounce House is, and that's where you'll find the face painting party.

Knotts Halloween -- Knott's Camp Spooky FAQ's

Photo of Scream costume my grandson wore to Knotts Berry Farm's Camp Spooky...but he had to take off the mask! 1.) Question: Can kids wear costumes to the Knott's Camp Spooky event? Yes, kids age 11 and under may wear costumes; adults should not wear costumes. One rule for dressing your kids in costume for the Knott's Halloween Party is "keep their faces showing." No masks allowed! (My grandson's Scream mask had to come off when he wore his Scream costume to Camp Spooky.)

2.) Question: What are the days and hours of the Camp Spooky celebration at Knott's Berry Farm? Answer: Camp Spooky is a weekend-only celebration. (There aren't enough crowds mid-week during the fall at Knotts Berry Farm to stage a full-scale event.) During weekdays, you'll still find all the rides open, the Snoopy costumed character waiting to meet and greet you, and you'll be able to enjoy the area's cute Halloween decorations. Lines during the daytime in October are short; even without the Camp Spooky activities going on, it's a great time to visit the park!

3.) Question: Will all rides be operating? Answer: Yes, all rides will be operating in Camp Spooky, and all stores/restaurants will be in operation, as well. Camp Snoopy offers a wide array of rides...some for "kiddies only," and others for the whole family to enjoy together. If you'd like to see photos of the rides & get details about them (eg. minimum height requirements,) then head to the Knott's Camp Snoopy Rides page of this website. Visitors to Camp Spooky do not have to remain in that area of the park; they may head to any ride or attraction at Knotts Berry Farm that they wish to enjoy.

4.) Question: How much does the Camp Spooky kids' party cost? Answer: The Camp Spooky events come included with the price of general admission to the Knott's Berry Farm theme park. So, you may enjoy all events without paying any extra fees!

If you have a child with an October birthday, this is a great time to hold a Knott's Berry Farm birthday celebration. You can find out reserving the Camp Snoopy party room (in the Lucy's Lunchbox Restaurant) and other details about the Knott's birthday packages on the Knotts Berry Farm Birthday Parties page of this website.

Picture of Snoopy stuffed animal, complete with pumpkin...a favorite Knott's Berry Farm souvenir for Halloween 5.) Question: What Snoopy and Peanuts Character Halloween Merchandise is available at Knotts? Answer: Peanuts and Snoopy fans will be in 7th heaven during Halloween time at Knotts. Both the Peanuts character store in Camp Snoopy AND the Snoopy Store (just outside the theme park's gates in the California Marketplace; no park admission needed) feature absolutely charming Halloween items...such as the Snoopy Halloween stuffed animal you see in the photo to your right. The Camp Snoopy store inside the park seems to "sell out" faster than the Snoopy store outside the main gates. Always check both stores to discover the biggest selection!

* Pictures of Knotts Camp Spooky: Some of the best photos of the Camp Spooky celebration that are available on the internet were taken in 2005. These can be found on the ThemeParkAdventure.com website. Here's a link to that site: Photos of 2005 Camp Spooky events at Knott's Berry Farm. (The photos ARE still there. But, you'll get a notice that "this weather feature has been retired"...because there used to be a box telling the current weather in Buena Park on that page.)

Knotts Halloween -- Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt

Picture of Knotts Berry Farm Halloween decorations

If your family has grown up a bit...in other words, if your kids are now teens, your family might enjoy heading to the biggest Halloween theme park event on Planet Earth: The Knott's Berry Farm Halloween Haunt.

You'll find that the Knott's Halloween Haunt is scary indeed! Even if you don't scare easily, the 1 to 2 hour waits for mazes and roller coasters are enough to make your skin blanche! Fighting your way through wall-to-wall crowds will raise the hair on your heads!

Just joking...well, sort of. The Knott's folks put on a darned good show for lovers of the macabre...and it's VERY well attended. Trying to enjoy Knott's Halloween Haunt on a Saturday or Sunday evening is like trying to enjoy Disneyland on a midsummer's day---a bit daunting. If your family would enjoy attending, try to make it on a Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday evening (the crowds are a BIT thinner) and/or stay late...because the crowds do dwindle a bit before closing time.

There are a "jillion" more things to say about the Knott's Halloween Haunt. Let me refer you to a couple of other websites rather than continue here.

  • Knott's official website---You should definitely check out the Knott's Berry Farm's official website & Halloween Haunt web pages. There, you can find out prices and specials, buy tickets, find out about combo dinner-and-haunt packages (that let you into the park early!), and Knott's Resort Hotel Halloween specials. You may use the following link to view the Knott's Berry Farm official website.

  • Ultimate Haunt website---On the other hand, you should also check out an UNofficial Halloween Haunt website...to get the REAL low-down and people's opinions of the celebration. In my opinion, the website called "UltimateHaunt.com" is the very best on the web. If you only have time to read one website about the Halloween Haunt (other than the "official" website, of course), then this is the one I'd recommend. It tells you details about every attraction at the Knott's Halloween Haunt, plus shows you tons of photos. You may use the following link to look through the website of Ultimate Haunt, the best unofficial Knott's Halloween Haunt Site on the web.

And don't forget to check out the 2 pages of 2007 Knotts Scary Farm photos right here on THIS website:

  • Knotts Halloween Haunt Pictures, pt 2: for photos of Carnevil and other scare zones, decorations & rides
