Kodak Theater, home of the Academy Awards
The 80th annual Academy Awards Ceremony for 2010 is coming! When will it be held? That date will be Sunday, March 7, 2010!
And just WHERE will the Academy Awards Ceremony take place? In Hollywood, California's Kodak Theater--a place where you and your family can take a tour on your vacation getaway to Los Angeles! For most of its history, the Academy Awards didn't have a home of its own. The very first Academy Awards ceremony---way back in 1929!---took place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. As the years passed, the Academy Awards Ceremony took place in various places throughout Hollywood and greater Los Angeles---the Ambassador and Biltmore Hotels, Grauman's Chinese Theater, the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium, the Pantages Theater, the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. These are all nice venues, to be sure...but the world-famed Academy Awards Ceremony needed a HOME...a permanent place for "Oscar" to call his own. And so, a home was built! "Oscar's" new home is the sparkling Kodak Theater in the Hollywood and Highland Center on Hollywood Boulevard. With the theater's opening in 2001, not only did the Academy Awards Ceremony gain a permanent home, but Hollywood Boulevard itself became transformed and revitalized. YOU can get in on some Oscar fun when you visit Hollywood, California---by taking a tour of the lovely Kodak Theater! A guide will take you inside the famous auditorium and explain all the little known details about the facilities that you may never hear about otherwise. Or, you may decide to view a musical or theatrical performance at the Kodak Theater, instead. (The Kodak Theater is also a fully-functioning artistic venue, in addition to being the Academy Awards ceremony's home.) A visit to the Kodak Theater will enhance your California visit, and you'll discover how to tour it (or take in a performance) in the paragraphs below.
