Tourists traveling on either the CA 118 or the CA 23 freeways are in for a pleasant surprise: a whole collection of beautiful new shops (in several brand-new shopping centers) are being built at the intersection of these freeways and Los Angeles Avenue in Moorpark, California.
The Moorpark Marketplace is the first of these vibrant new shopping venues to be completed. It's attractive, it's convenient, and---for visitors new to the area---it's wonderfully in-sight of the freeway (so you can't get lost!) Not only is this a great location for both locals and Southern California tourists, but it's also ideally located for hundreds of commuters who pass this point every morning and evening between their homes in the cities of Ventura, Fillmore and Santa Paula and their jobs in Los Angeles County. The Moorpark Marketplace is a large center featuring both huge stores (like its anchor stores Target and Kohl's Department Store) and small, cozy shops. You'll need to drive between stores if you have several shopping destinations within the center. On the other hand, you'll also find a cozy little "food court" called "The Marketplace Eateries" in which the shopping center is scaled down to a more "human-friendly" size. A darling little patio with umbrella-shaded tables, an attractive water fountain, and the cute statue of a little girl (see photos below) lend a feeling of rest and relaxation to this special corner of the Marketplace. Other shopping centers at the Los Angeles Avenue exit are being built as you read this! The Village at Moorpark is still under construction, but already has several great stores open; these will be discussed on this page along with the Moorpark Marketplace businesses. Also, a center featuring a Home Depot is being built in this area. On the other side of the freeway, a development called "Moorpark Grove," which will feature both businesses as well as office space, is nearing completion. By the time all of these shopping plazas are finished, residents and visitors will have quite a tantalizing choice of shopping and dining possibilities in the immediate area. In addition, all of the developments are both beautiful AND being built in architectural styles which complement one another...for a more or less "seamless" look which may leave some guests wondering where one development ends and another begins. This page will discuss the establishments you may expect to discover on your visit to the Moorpark Marketplace, along with contact information for the individual establishments there. You'll be able to find directions and a map to this area at the bottom of this page. Though I wasn't able to get a good after-dark photo of the Moorpark Marketplace, nighttime is an especially pretty time to visit. There's a tall clock tower welcoming you to the center which is strikingly lit up at night. Along with other attractive lighting features on the individual businesses themselves, the shopping center is a vision of lovliness as one makes an exit from the freeway and heads towards this "mall."
Shopping at the Moorpark Marketplace
The list of businesses at the Moorpark Marketplace isn't long, but the stores are larger establishments which offer a large variety of merchandise within them. At the Moorpark Marketplace, you'll find the following stores (and, as you'll note, each one has its own, individual street address)---

As noted in the opening intro to this page, the Moorpark Marketplace has an intimate and enchanting food court area. Some of the establishments listed above are centered around the food court...while others are scattered about the shopping center.
The Moorpark Marketplace food court patio is a relaxing and enjoyable setting for your meal or snack. Tables are shaded by umbrellas, and an attractive fountain gurgles and splashes at your side, forming both a physical and mental barrier between diners and the parking lot.
Moorpark Marketplace: Directions and map
Just as the CA 118 freeway curves southward and turns into the CA 23 freeway, you'll find the Los Angeles Ave exit...and that's where the Moorpark Marketplace sits. (The CA 118 doesn't really end here; it continues on as a rural road from Moorpark to Ventura. This road is a pleasant drive, as long as there isn't much traffic.)
Likewise, the CA 23 freeway doesn't end here either, but turns into a winding mountain road leading to the town of Fillmore. Tourists may find this an interesting "country" drive...but don't let this road fool you. What appears to be a quiet, country lane actually turns into a frenzied commuter pathway during rush hour! It's hard to imagine the lay of the land in this area, because of the twists & turns of the road. If you'll be heading through the Moorpark area of Ventura County, you should study a map.
