The "Pacific Wharf" themed area in Disney's California Adventure pays tribute to the longstanding California fishing industry. Daily, fresh hauls of fine seafood are brought to both the markets of California, and also to vendors in far-flung places across the globe thanks to this army of workers.What is there to do in the Pacific Wharf themed area? The major emphasis is on eating; you'll find several of the theme park's restaurants here. And attractions? There are 2 attractions within the Pacific Wharf area---one of them is a factory tour featuring food, while the other will feature free chocolate samples and a soda fountain.
New Ghirardelli Chocolate store & soda fountain! Do you love rich, smooth Ghirardelli chocolate? If you do, you're among many theme park fans who do! And, as of Spring 2012, you'll be able to indulge your taste buds while visiting Disney's California Adventure Park!
Located near the entrance to the park's new Cars Land in the space formerly occupied by the Mission Tortilla Factory, the new Ghirardelli's location opens during Spring, 2012.
You find it hard to resist all the tasty temptations of Ghirardelli's new soda fountain...and you'll face an exciting array of choices! You may order chocolate shakes, hot cocoa, brownies & cakes and other confectionary delights, all made with Ghirardelli's special gourmet chocolate.
If you don't want to take time to sit down and relax over a delicious treat, that's OK. You may stop into the shop simply to enjoy a free sample of Ghirardelli's chocolate. You may also purchase some of Ghirardelli's gourmet chocolates and gift sets inside the company's new Disney California Adventure store, as well.
Boudin Sourdough Bread bakery tour
Another popular activity in Pacific Whart at Disneys California Adventure is the Boudin Sourdough Bread Bakery Tour.
Sourdough bread became popular in California during the Gold Rush days of the '49ers...and despite the years that have passed, remains just as in-demand up until this very day.
You will watch a film showing you the sourdough bread-making process, and observe (through glass windows) the bakery workers making fresh bread---and, of course, get a fresh bread sample---when you take the Boudin Bakery Tour!
So, what do they do with all of the bread made for the enjoyment of visitors to the Boudin Factory Tour? That's easy! The visitors to Pacific Wharf at Disneys California Adventure eat it! There's a very popular restaurant just on the other side of the bakery which features Boudin Sourdough for sandwiches...AND for edible soup bowls! (It's the Pacific Wharf Cafe---and you can see it in this photo!)
The Boudin Bread Bowls are rounds of sourdough with the tops removed, and the diner's choice of chowder, chili or other delicious soup fills the inside!
Main-dish salads are also served inside the sourdough bread bowls here, as well. The soups and main-dish salads run $8--11, and the sandwiches here cost about $7--10. The Pacific Wharf Cafe is open year-round.
In this photo, you see the Lucky Fortune Cookery, featuring Chinese cuisine. Beef and chicken rice bowls, main-dish salads with zesty Asian flavorings, and dim sum are served here. However, the Lucky Fortune Cookery is only open during the busiest summer months.
There IS, however, still another restaurant open year-round in Pacific Wharf at Disneys California Adventure---and that's Cocina Cucamonga, serving delicious Mexican foods made with---guess what? Those absolutely fresh Mission Tortills you saw being made during your tortilla factory tour!
At Cocina Cucamonga, you can satisfy your craving for Mexican food by ordering from a variety of tasty taco/burrito plates, served with refried beans and chips on the side. Or, you can find meat & cheese covered main-dish sized servings of nachos here, as well. Adult entrees fall into the $7--10 range.
For around $6, kids can order a children's meal complete with entree, side dish and beverage, served in a souvenir plastic box.
One convenient thing about dining in Pacific Wharf at Disney's California Adventure is that you may eat in a patio centrally located to all 3 of the restaurants there. That way, it's easy for each member of your group to order exactly what they want---while still dining all together!
Since there isn't more to say about Pacific Wharf at Disneys California Adventure, I'll leave you with this scenic photo of the Wharf. If you can make it out in the picture, you'll see that there's a fake fishing net packed to the brim with a fresh catch of equally-fake fish. That's a humorous photo-op spot. There's a place behine the bulging net where you can stand...and the photo will come out looking like YOU caught all of those fish!
