Pismo State Beach Camping
Discover Pismo's attractive Oceano and North Beach Campgrounds!
In the slide show above, you're viewing pictures of Pismo Beach's Oceano campground, along with photos of the sands & ocean nearby. In addition to camping, driving on the sand at Pismo State Beach is an activity you may enjoy---in fact, it's the ONLY California State Beach which allows taking your car onto the sand. On this page, you'll get information about 2 enjoyable Pismo State Beach camping grounds.
Oceano Campground at Pismo State Beach
In the slide show above, most of the Pismo Beach campground pictures that you see were taken in the Oceano Campground of Pismo State Beach.
Though Pismo's Oceano Campground does have direct beach access (nor views,) its location is within easy walking distance of the shore.
Giant trees gracing Oceano's campsites with shade are a major feature here, and a real treat for the eyes.
Restrooms with running water & showers mean that families bringing back small children from the beach will have an easy place to wash off the grit and salt from their bodies. All in all, it's a convenient location with a number of nice amenities. We enjoyed camping there and imagine that your family probably would, too.
Oceano's Campsites, Pismo Beach State ParkThe Pismo SB Oceano Campground has 82 camping sites. Both RV's and tents are accepted at the Oceano camping ground.
RV Campsites at Oceano Campground: The Oceano Campground offers both water and electrical hookups. A large percentage of sites provide easy pull-through access; the rest are back-in camping spaces. All interior roads are fully paved, and so are the parking aprons (as you can tell from the pictures of Oceano Campground on this page.) There are 4 camping loops at the Oceano Campground, and 2 of them (the two loops with hookups) are reserved for RV's to use (vehicles up to 36 feet in length.) One specifically-designated handicap space is available, with an 18 foot maximum length.
Tent camping at Oceano Campground: Sites without hookups are available in 2 of the 4 camping loops at Oceano state campground. However, tenters don't have the luxury of keeping all these camping spaces to themselves. RV's, camper vans, and travel trailers may share them, too (not to exceed 31 feet in length.)
1.) Each campsite has its own picnic table and grill
2.) Each camping space is placed a reasonable distance from its neighbors. Thick green lawns grow between the camping spaces and other areas. Tall trees provide shade.
3.) Flush toilets, along with sinks and showers featuring city water are available in restroom buildings spaced throughout the 4 camping loops. Water spigots are placed throughout the camping loops which don't have hookups.
4.) Wi Fi service is available at the Oceano state beach campground.
5.) Hiking trails, horseshoe pits and a nature center are available for your enjoyment at the Oceano camping ground.
6.) The Pismo SB Oceano Campground is open year-round.
Oceano campground is busy!
The Oceano Campground of California's Pismo State beach is very popular. Getting a spot at the Oceano camping ground during summertime is difficult; campsites are often reserved months ahead of time. (However, the highest summer demand for campsites usually starts to lessen towards the end of August. If you want to camp between September and May, you should have less difficulty finding a spot.)
Pismo Beach Oceano Campground address & contact information
Directions from downtown Pismo Beach: Head south on California Hwy 1 to Pier Avenue. Turn right onto Pier Ave, then right again into the Oceano Campground's entrance. (You can see a picture of the campground's sign in the slide show at the top of this page.)
Map to Pismo State Beach: Here's a Google map to the Oceano Campground of Pismo State Beach. If you turn the map to its satellite image, you'll see a good aerial photo of the campground.
Pismo State Beach's Oceano Campground phone number is 805-473-7220. This is the number to call for general campground information.
Camping fees at the Pismo Beach Oceano Campground: Rates at Oceano Campground begin at $35 to $50, depending on the site and its amenities as well as the time of year you'll be visiting. There is also a fairly steep reservations fee of $8 (which, unfortunately, is a needed expense considering how busy this campground gets.) This price may be more than you remember if you've camped at Pismo Beach before. That's because the California State Parks have had a rate hike fairly recently.

North Beach Campground mailing address: If you need to address any correspondence to the North Beach camp, send it to 555 Pier Ave, Oceano, CA 93445 (which is both the mailing address and the street address for the Oceano Campground.) If you're trying to look up a map online or set your GPS for the park, this address won't help you, though. Though the North Beach campground doesn't have an official address other than "California Highway 1," your GPS might be able to find 200 S Dolliver St, Pismo Beach, CA 93449 (which is the address of the Pismo Dunes Travel Trailer Park, just north of North Beach campground.)

However, since there are no hookups, all campsites, whether for tents or for motor homes, are charged the same rates. Camping fees at North Beach begin at $35 per night. Reservations are made through Reserve California. Since the Pismo State Beach page of the Reserve California website handles reservations for BOTH the Oceano AND the North Beach campgrounds, you may use the links in the paragraphs above to make your campsite reservations.
