Corona, California has a brand new open-air mall...and shopping lovers will enjoy paying a visit to see it.
The Promenade at Dos Lagos is one of the new-type malls that developers like to call "lifestyle centers." This medium sized shopping center features its shops in 4 main shopping buildings, plus a number of out-buildings for restaurants and the new Krikorian Theater. When going from one shop to another, you'll walk outside along wide pedestrian sidewalks, and enjoy the fresh air and landscaping touches. During the summertime, this experience might be more sweaty than enjoyable, but throughout the rest of the year, most visitors will probably enjoy the stroll. The Dos Lagos Promenade opened in October 2006 with many of its stores still unopened. Since that time, a number of stores have joined the already-open merchants, until now MOST stores are open---but still not all. In addition, restaurant openings are lagging behind the stores, and about half of them won't be open until Spring of 2007. When all stores and restaurants are open, this mid-sized shopping plaza will offer visitors 60+ establishments to enjoy. Nevertheless, the entertainment centerpiece of the Dos Lagos Promenade is the new Krikorian 15 Theater. This all-stadium theater features large auditoriums with wall-to-wall curved screens. Seats are plushly padded and have armrests that raise so you can snuggle with your sweetie or your kids. State-of-the-art sound is in every theater, and the Krikorian has the capacity for digital projection. There are three different ticket prices at the Krikorian Theaters 15 at Dos Lagos. The first showing of each movie every day features a super bargain price called the . Then, special matinee pricing is in effect for all showtimes up until 6 pm. "Standard" pricing kicks in for the evening shows at 6 pm or later. In addition to ticket windows, speedy ticket-purchasing kiosks (which accept credit cards) are also available. The lobby is a sight to behold with made-for-the-Krikorian furnishings and Murano crystal chandeliers! No wonder the slogan of the Krikorian Theaters is "Experience the Elegance." One of the delights of taking in a movie at the Dos Lagos Krikorian is the ability to add a "romantic stroll" to your evening's mix of entertainment. (Or a family stroll, as a number of folks at Dos Lagos enjoy, as well.) There is a beautiful walkway out over the lakes at Dos Lagos which is romantically lit at night, as you can see in the photo to your right. You can't actually see the water at night...but, then, that's not really the point, anyway! Along the walkway, you'll find a number of attractive benches where you can stop, chat, and just enjoy the evening air. Another place where you can enjoy a romantically-lit evening stroll is along the row of shops at Dos Lagos. As you can see in the photo below, the line of shops at this beautiful outdoor mall is festively lit. You'll also find features such as bubbling fountains and benches on which to stop and rest as you stroll along the mall's main thoroughfare.
EDWARDS THEATER, CROSSINGS AT CORONA PLAZA There's another good place near the Dos Lagos mall where you can take in a movie and grab some dinner. That's at the nearby Crosssings at Corona shopping plaza, where you'll find a new Edwards movie theater. Like the Krikorian at Dos Lagos, the Edwards Stadium 18 Theater at the Corona Crossings plaza features plush seating in all-stadium-style auditoriums, plus state-of-the-art sound systems. You'll find "tons" of parking, and a number of dining options to make your special outing complete. These are the "official" directions---From I-15 in Corona, take the Weirick Rd exit and head east one block to Temescal Canyon Road. Take a left at Temescal Canyon Rd to get to the mall and the theater. The "unofficial" way to get to the Dos Lagos Shops...which is more convenient if you're coming from the north, as most people are...is as follows: Head south on Interstate 15 from the I-15/SR 91 Freeway interchange. Exit at Cajalco, go east to Temescal Canyon Road, and turn right to get to Dos Lagos. The reason that the Cajalco exit is not mentioned on the Dos Lagos official website is simple: if you take this exit (which is closer to downtown Corona than the Weirick Rd exit), you'll have to travel past the big, new Crossings at Corona shopping center before you reach Dos Lagos! In fact, from The Crossings at Corona, the Dos Lagos mall isn't even visible...and all the great shops, restaurants and the Edwards Stadium Theater are so tempting to passersby! I don't think that the Dos Lagos management trusts you to drive past The Crossings and keep heading to their place! To make a long story short, BOTH of these shopping venues are shiny, new, and offer great stores. You'll surely want to check out both. The two shopping districts offer different things from the other. Yes, the two compete. But, they also enhance one another, as well.
