Santa's Reindeer Roundup PicturesMeet Santa, see reindeer, have some Western roundup fun!
What is Santa's Reindeer Roundup?
It's a popular Wild Western-themed Christmas attraction in thye Frontierland themed area of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California! Though its main appeal will be for the children in your group, the beautiful holiday decorations and one-of-a-kind atmosphere will make Santa's Reindeer Roundup a stop that will interest every member of the family in one way or another. Most activities come free with your Disneyland admission, although there are some notable exceptions: the "all you can eat" BBQ dinner and the cookie-decorating project. The components of the very aptly-named Santa's Reindeer Roundup include--- 1.) A Disney-themed show...featuring live music and singing. Other shows, such as a magic show, can also be seen here. Beginning in 2009, you'll need to purchase an extra-fee bar-b-q dinner in order to sit near the stage. Another way you can sit down to see the show is to purchase the extra-fee cookie decorating activity. All others will have to stand & observe from afar. (In past years, close-up seating was available to all.) Note: the show does not run continuously...so you may have to eat slowly in order to see it while you're dining! 2.) Children's holiday arts and crafts (coloring) 3.) The opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs Claus 4.) A reindeer-viewing area 5.) Tasteful Christmas decorations following a traditional red and green color scheme...which just might spur your mind into thinking up similar holiday decor for your OWN home! On this page, you can see pictures and get details about each of these activities at Disneyland Park's Santa's Reindeer Roundup seasonal attraction.
Santa's Reindeer Roundup---See a show!
Pluto isn't the only star of the show at Santa's Reindeer Roundup...but he's the character most noticed by the kids who attend!
Children come right up front by the stage (as you see in the photo at the top of this page) and sit by Pluto's feet when they participate in this cute, seasonal show. Kids (and the adults in the crowd) are led in songs of the season while a Western-style guitarist accompanies everyone. Children are encouraged to feel a part of the show by clapping and moving in time with the music. Then the action gets even MORE lively as the kids stand and dance...or even pretend that Pluto is a big "Christmas tree!"
Shows take place throughout the day. Whenever you meander over to the Santa's Reindeer Roundup area of Disneyland Park...which is at the rear of Frontierland 'way BEHIND the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster...you're likely to either find a show in progress, or else one coming up soon. The children's singing and dancing show isn't the only presentation you may stumble across on the Santa's Reindeer Roundup stage. For example, the next show after the one in which these pictures of Pluto were taken was a magic show! Or, if you visit Santa's Reindeer Roundup at dusk, you'll get to witness a Christmas tree lighting---with "Pluto the ReinDOG" doing the honors!
Santa's Reindeer Roundup---Meet Santa & Reindeer!
There's one more reason why this Disneyland Christmas attraction is called Santa's Reindeer Roundup---you can view "real live" reindeer here!
In the area where you'll sometimes find a children's petting zoo (like you'll see on the Woody's Halloween Roundup page of this website) you'll find half a dozen or so reindeer that you may view. Though you won't be able to pet the reindeer nor walk amongst these beautiful animals in their pen, this is nevertheless a good chance for guests to get a chance to view these relatively rare creatures.
Next to the reindeer exhibit, you'll find Santa Claus waiting to greet you! The Disneyland Santa Claus has his own separate building containing a decorative set where you can either take your own photos (free of charge) or have portraits made by a Disneyland staff member...using a high-powered camera (extra charge.)
Santa's Reindeer Roundup---Meet Disney Characters!
You can meet & greet Chip and Dale at Santa's Reindeer Roundup!
Chip & Dale, Disney's popular chipmunk costumed characters, make appearances throughout the day at this Frontierland Christmas attraction. As you can see in the photo to your left, Chip is outfitted for the winter holidays by sporting a thick red and green-colored scarf. Chipmunk Dale also greets fans of all ages at the Santa's Reindeer Roundup attraction.
Dale, like Chip, is dressed to ward off the winter chill by wearing a red and green scarf...but in a different style. There's an easier way to tell these 2 Disney chipmunks apart than by memorizing what clothing they're wearing. Chip has a small black nose, and his tooth is centered below the nose. Dale has a large red nose, and his two teeth are placed one on each side of his mouth. As you read earlier on this page, you can also meet Pluto at Santa's Reindeer Roundup. Pluto interacts with children in the singing and dancing show, AND he also makes rounds throughout the audience, afterwards.
Santa's Reindeer Roundup---Kids' Crafts!
Though showtimes at Santa's Reindeer Roundup run periodically, there are certain activities you may enjoy at this Disneyland holiday attraction which run continuously. As we've already mentioned, you may view reindeer or visit Santa Claus---and these activities may be done any time during the hours which the Reindeer Roundup is open.
Another continuous activity is Children's Arts and Crafts. There are 2 types of crafts activities at Santa's Reindeer Roundup: Free and extra-fee. For no extra charge, kids may color a Christmas-themed picture using crayons.
Or, for an extra fee, kids may buy a large sugar cookie and decorate it in the manner of their choosing. In the photo above, you can see Mrs. Claus helping a child decorate one of the sugar cookies. (Mrs Claus roams the Reindeer Roundup area meeting & taking photos with guests and providing assistance where needed.) In the picture below, you can see the Mrs Claus Cookie Kitchen booth, where guests may purchase the cookies to decorate.
You may also sit at these same tables to enjoy this attraction's cute little shows if the benches near the stage are full.
Holiday decor and Disney Christmas merchandise!
Children may focus on Santa Claus, reindeer and Disney costumed characters, but adults will thoroughly enjoy looking at the tasteful Christmas decorations throughout the Santa's Reindeer Roundup attraction.
Crafty people, especially, can glean literally "tons" of home decorating ideas here. The professional decorators at Disneyland have used a number of interesting materials and combined them in creative ways to creat the "country holiday" look that Santa's Reindeer Roundup projects. You'll see examples of the following types of decorative materials--
You'll also enjoy browsing through a selection of Disneyland's Christmas merchandise. An assortment of Christmas shirts, hats, Mouse Ears and other gifts & souvenirs are for sale at carts and stands within the Santa's Reindeer Roundup attraction. If you've had trouble finding a store where you can buy the Disney Christmas items that you'd like---without standing in a line!---you may have luck being able to make your purchases more quickly here.
