South Coast Plaza Mall Overview

On this page, you may find information about the businesses in the South Coast Plaza Mall's MAIN BUILDING. However, there are OTHER South Coast Plaza shopping areas IN ADDITION to its main building. One such addition is the attractive South Coast Plaza West building...which is a lovely mall in its own right. (Old timers will remember that SCP West used to be called "Crystal Court.") South Coast Plaza's stores also spill over into the "South Coast Plaza Village" shopping center, just north of the mall across Sunflower Street. Also adjacent to the South Coast Plaza Mall is the Metro Pointe Mall. At Metro Pointe, you'll find entertainment, restaurants, snacking, and some bargain-oriented stores. (It's the Metro Pointe Mall's Edwards 12 Cinemas that you see in the photo to your left.) Though the Metro Pointe Mall has different ownership from South Coast Plaza, many visitors to either one of these two malls shop at both places on the same trip. Macy's and Macy's Men's store are at the "main" mall, and the Macy's Home Store is across the street in the mall building that USED to be called Crystal Court. The Metro Pointe Mall at South Coast Plaza

Edwards Stadium Theaters, a popular entertainment hot spot!

Metro Pointe is the "entertainment" highlight in the South Coast Plaza area. At Metro Pointe, you can catch movies at the Edwards 12 Cinema. At the Edwards 12 Theaters, each individual theater features state-of-the-art sound and stadium seating. Though there are only 12 movie theaters in this Edwards location, the complex offers about the same variety of first-run movies as larger cinemas (because larger complexes often just show the same films repeatedly in several auditoriums.) Because the parking situation is so good at Metro Pointe (with 2 parking structures serving it) and because less crowds are attracted to the smaller-sized cinema, it's a favorite place of mine to see movies. There's live entertainment at Metro Pointe on weekend evenings, which generally means a band. The band plays in a central area where folks waiting for the movies, dining on the patio at several of the restaurants, or just milling around, can hear them. Also at night, hundreds of Christmas-style lights blaze in the trees at Metro Pointe (which you can see in the pictures on this page), giving the venue an attractive ambiance.

Another center of activity at Metro Pointe Mall is the Barnes and Noble Bookstore. It's somewhat of a tradition (when no band is playing) for people awaiting their movies to head to Barnes and Noble to browse at the magazines and books. Also, Barnes and Noble, which stays open until 11 pm nightly, is a hot hangout for young folks doing their homework in the evenings. The Barnes and Noble phone number is 714/444-0226.

The normal store hours at South Coast Plaza Mall are as follows: Mondays through Fridays, the mall opens at 10 am and closes at 9 pm; Saturdays, the South Coast Plaza opening time is 10 am and its closing time is 8 pm; Sunday, the mall's shops open at 11 am and close at 6:30 pm. Note that individual department stores, restaurants, and the Edwards Cinemas at Metro Pointe may choose different operating hours.

The South Coast Plaza address is: 3333 S. Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA. Directions to South Coast Plaza: From Interstate 405 in Orange County, take the Bristol Street exit; the mall sits in just to the side of the freeway. If you are headed to Metro Pointe, you might find it easier to take the Fairview Exit, then make a short jaunt down South Coast Plaza Drive until you reach the mall.
