Want to head to a shopping, dining and entertainment complex that's hip 'n fun? Try out The Block at Orange in Orange County, California! People call The Block at Orange all kind of different names. The Block of Orange. The Block in Orange. The Block Orange County. The Block Mall. Well...call it what you like; it makes no difference. What REALLY matters is that this entertaining Orange County center is a really GREAT place for you to spend an afternoon or evening. The Block at Orange is an outdoor-style mall and features a cozy, village-like setting in which you can browse, choose from a number of delightful restaurants, and then catch a movie at the AMC Multiplex Cinema (or enjoy one of the other entertainment choices at The Block, if you'd rather.) The Block's architecture is whimsical, as you can see from the photos on this page. Come enjoy!
The Block at Orange -- Restaurants
You'll find a variety of restaurants and snacking options scattered throughout The Block at Orange. Finding a restaurant you LIKE isn't the problem; it's trying to decide which of the many you'd like to try!Not only can you find restaurants within the strolling paths of The Block itself, but there are also restaurants on separate pads lining the outer rim of The Block's giant parking lot. In the following list of restaurants, I'll include both types of restaurants. At The Block of Orange, you'll find the following featured restaurants for your dining pleasure--- 1.) Alcatraz Brewing Co. (phone number 714/939-8686)---Featuring an American menu of burgers, pastas, pizza chicken and beef dishes. Entrees run around $9--14 for lunch and around $9--$25 for dinner, depending on your selection. 2.) Cafe Tu Tu Tango (phone number 714/769-2222)---Featuring a decor they say resembles a "Spanish artist's loft," the Cafe offers a menu which heavily emphasizes appetizers that you can share with your companions, pizzas, dinner salads...just a mix of offerings. You'll find the walls filled with works of local artists, and often you'll find an artist at work right within the restaurant itself. 3.) Dave & Busters, see "entertainment" 4.) El Torito (phone number 714/939-6711)---Located out in the parking lot, El Torrito at The Block is another location for this fine Mexican chain. You'll find traditional (Americanized!) Mexican dinners here---fajitas and enchiladas, for example. 5.) Johnny Rockets Diner (phone number 714/769-4500)---You'll find a location of the always-cute 50's retro-style Johnny Rockets here at The Block in Orange. As usual, the menu features hefty burgers, thick-cut fries, and real-ice-cream milkshakes so thick you can stand up a straw in them! 6.) Koji Sushi and Shabu Shabu (phone number 714/769-0200)---This is one of the pricier restaurants in The Block at Orange, and I understand (from friends who like this type of food) that this is a good place to enjoy your Sushi favorites. 7.) Market Broiler Restaurant (phone number 714/769-3474)---You'll find seafood, steak and ribs broiled over mesquite here, as well as a selection of pastas and dinner salads. 8.) Richie's Neighborhood Pizza (phone number 714/769-3130)--- Traditional-style pizza with traditional toppings, such as pepperoni and sausage 9.) Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill (phone number 714/769-3177)---One of the popular chain restaurants in Southern California featuring the fresh taste of Baja Mexican-style cooking. A huge burrito runs about $7 at Rubio's, including salsa and toppings. 10.) TGIF Restaurant (TGI Fridays) (phone number 714/978-3308)---This popular chain of restaurants features and American style menu...items such as steak, chicken, ribs, burgers, pastas and main dish salads.
Along with the dinner restaurants, The Block at Orange offers you many quick meal & snacking opportunities. 1.) The AMC 30 Theaters (phone number 714-769-4262) is a giant new cineplex featuring stadium-style seating and state-of-the art sound systems. You'll find all the latest movie releases at the AMC 30 Theatres. At times, you'll also be able to hear live music in the large plaza in front of the theater as you wait for your show. If you'd like to look up showtimes via the internet (rather than hear the phone recording,) the following link will take you to the www.amctheatres.com official website. At Dave & Busters (phone number 714/769 1515), you can play your favorite arcade games...and grab a meal or a snack when you get hungry. 3.) The Lucky Strike Lanes (phone number 714/937 5263) is another place where you'll never get hungry as you bowl. In addition to having what it calls "state-of-the-art" bowling lanes, you'll also find a casual dining restaurant inside.
4.) At Borders Books and Music (phone number 714/385-1025), you can grab coffee and a muffin at the snack bar...or just sit down and read a good book in a comfortable chair. At night, Borders turns into "homework heaven," as young people pile in to do their studies, eat and chat with their friends. 5.) Van's Skate Park (phone number 714/769-3800) is a skaters dream. If you don't skateboard, that's OK---there's gallery seating section, so you can just go & watch the young athletes perform their stunts. Van's Skate Park features half-pipes, rails, and a large (empty) pool on which the skaters can practice during their sessions at Van's. 6.) Virgin Megastore, phone number 714/769-4400. If you can't find the entertainment you want at The Block, no problem. Pick up some music or a movie & take it home to enjoy!

The Block at Orange Mall has a strong emphasis on entertainment and dining. You can't do your "all around shopping for the whole family" here; neither will you find The Block of Orange to be a good place to find housewares.On the other hand, The Block is a great place to find clothing for teens and young adults. A fun store for browsing while at The Block in Orange is Hilo Hattie's Shop of Hawaii (phone number 714/769-3254). The Hilo Hattie's store features clothing for the whole family...all made with Hawaiian print fabrics! They have merchandise that's just MEANT for browsing...things you'll never see anywhere else. As well as Hawaiian-themed clothing, you'll find Hawaiian printed housewares, and a section for foods from Hawaii. (Note: several readers have asked where else they may find a Hilo Hattie's store in Southern California.
