Answer: The exciting shopping, dining and entertainment destination formed by the combination of the side-by-side venerable Farmer's Market of Los Angeles, and the shiny new open-air mall called simply, The Grove.
For decades, both Angelenos and visitors have poured into the popular Farmer's Market...both to dine at unique, one-of-a-kind restaurants and to shop for fresh fruits, veggies, meats and baked goods.
Fast forward to the 21st Century...and the time-honored Farmer's Market welcomed an up-to-the-minute companion, The Grove open-air mall. The Grove's hip look is crafted in the styles of the most popular shopping venues of today; and yet, it's funny..."today's" styles often mimic the past. Therefore, though The Grove was built to today's "fashion standards" for buildings, (and in LA, buildings DO go in and out of fashion, and must be knocked down periodically to make way for the "latest thing" in architecture), the "retro" look just happens to be in style at the moment. So, while built over half a century apart, the buildings of the older Farmer's Market and the new Grove Mall aren't so out-of-step with one another as one might imagine.
In fact, as a visitor, you'll stroll back and forth between the two shopping areas without even realizing, perhaps, when you are entering one and leaving the other.
While it may matter a great deal to the owners of these 2 destinations, it doesn't matter much to the visitor whether they're shopping or dining in one or the other. It all SEEMS like one big complex, especially to first-time visitors. The Grove's entertainment high point is its lovely Grove Stadium 14 Theater, a member of the Pacific Theater chain. All the latest films play at The Grove Pacific Theater; undoubtedly, one of the movies on your own "must see" list will be playing there when you visit.
Each auditorium at The Grove cinemas features stadium seating, digital sound, and large overstuffed chairs. Some visitors have complained that the showtimes they prefered were sold out when they visited. So, if you're planning to catch a film during a busy weekend afternoon or evening, either arrive early or purchase your tickets ahead of time to be safe.
