Whittwood Town Center ---
The former Whittwood Mall is "new again;" Come admire the changes!
Southern California shoppers are picky. They want the best shopping venues; only "the latest thing" will do. Therefore, every once in a while, greater Los Angeles malls and shopping centers need to wrap themselves in a cocoon, let the old "worm" crawl inside, and then wait for a new "butterfly" to emerge. This same story has happened...and continues to happen...all over So Cal, from San Diego County on up through Santa Barbara (generally with very good results.) And, now a new "butterfly" has emerged in the town of Whittier, in Los Angeles County.
This time, the "old worm" was the Whittwood Mall, a 1960's center which had already undergone other renovations in the past. Once again, though, this mall's attendance flagged. It was time to build a cocoon once more.
The new "butterfly" which has emerged is the bright new Whittwood Town Center. Well...not all of the shopping center is totally new. Both the Sears and Mervyn's Department Stores look the same as before the rennovation. The Penney's Building is still standing, but has had a new "facelift."
The entire center portion of the mall was knocked down, and all new structures with an up-to-date, with-it design have arisen in its place. Interesting restaurants and shops are located in the mall's out-buildings. And...construction isn't complete: a new Food Court section of the Whittwood shopping center is about to open! The food court features striking modern architecture and will make an attractive addition to the other new (and old) shops at the Whitwood Town Center.

Four department stores serve the new Whittwood Town Center: JC Penney's, Mervyn's, Sears and Target. Between the four of them, you'll be able to find a nice selection of clothing and accessories for your family, portrait photography, housewares and home decor, and supplies for your garden and patio.
